2008 Stars Spring Training and Pre-Tryout Camp

The Stars AAA Hockey Club is pleased to announce it's 2008 "Spring
Training and Pre-Tryout Camp". This years Spring Camp is developed through a collaborated effort of the three most powerful and elite AAA/AA hockey associations in the DFW metroplex. The 'Texas Attack', 'Alliance Bulldogs' and 'Dallas Ice Jets' have come together to produce the most dynamic Spring Camp the state of TX has ever seen. All three programs have had incredible success in developing players and teams on a national level. These outstanding programs and coaches have now come together to offer it's leading edge instruction in  camp. Entering a combined 7th year of Spring Training we have once again 'raised the bar' in delivering the most comprehensive and cutting edge program in the country.

During the past couple of seasons we recognize how the 'new rules' have significantly altered hockey at all levels of the game with an unprecedented focus on speed and skill. These rule changes have seriously impacted youth players forcing them to train and develop smarter and more effectively than ever before. With this truth in mind, our full time hockey staff has designed a Spring Camp to address these needs. This program is what every dedicated AA/AAA player needs in order to take their game to the next level and survive in the new hockey era.

The Stars 2008 Spring Camp will be an innovative program that runs from April 26th - June 14th for all players (Mite/2002 - Midget/1989). The Camp will run sessions twice a week for all groups. Sessions will run primarily out of the DPSC/Valley Ranch facility with some sessions at the DPSC/Grapevine rink.

MISSION

It is our mission to become the industry leader in providing cutting edge professional, high quality hockey programs. Our Spring Camp is designed with one purpose in mind: PLAYER DEVELOPMENT. Our camp is NOT about lack of structure, purpose or design. We are highly trained professionals looking to offer players a training 'roadmap' for success.

All successful hockey programs come down to two main criteria - COACHING & TRAINING PROTOCOLS - the Stars Spring Camp offers the best of both! Our coaching staff is made up of not only the most experienced coaches that AAA/AA hockey has to offer, but the most experienced coaches when it comes down to what everyone should be looking for in a Spring Training Program, PLAYER DEVELOPMENT. No program in Dallas can match the experience, success and winning standards of our All-Star coaching roster. Our professional staff offers over 100 years of playing, coaching and training experience and knows what it takes to train players so they can take their game to the next level!

Our 2008 Camp has been improved and expanded to bring the best on and off-ice training to our students. As the LEADER in training and development and the ORIGINATORS of SPRING TRAINING since 2002 we know what our players and customers are searching for... Results!!

With local tryouts beginning in June it is essential that players prepare themselves in the months ahead to assure themselves an opportunity to play on their team of choice. Local competition has become fierce over the past few seasons and gaining an advantage over the competition is vital. Our Spring Camp not only prepares players for tryouts it introduces them to our coaches who will be coaching our oustanding AAA/AA teams with the Stars AAA Hockey Club, Alliance Bulldogs and Dallas Ice Jets. This gives players a prime opportunity to improve their skill while showcasing their abilities, attitude and character to our coaching staff. Our Spring Camp will prepare players for their BEST tryout for 08/09 season. This is our personal guarantee!

CAMP GOALS

The goals and objectives of this Camp are centered on IMPROVING
individual hockey skills and hockey sense. We believe the harder you train the better you get. The better you get, the more you are willing to try. The more that you are willing to try, the more confident that you will be. Our program will utilize this philosophy by offering a training curriculum using a combination of innovative, creative proven training techniques from NCAA Division I programs, European training, USA/Canadian Olympic programs and the NHL.

CAMP FORMAT

All players will be grouped according to player's birth year and/or skill
level. Coaches will place all players at their respective levels. We
reserve the right to move players around at any time during the camp to best fit their developmental needs. Due to the size and strength of our combined associations and staff our 2008 Spring Camp promises to be the largest, most competitive and challenging camp in the metroplex. This is a great chance for all players with like minded aspirations, skill and desire to train together under one program. The birth years offered this spring are MITE (2002) to Major Midget (1989).

CAMP CURRICULUM

Our philosophy is to run high energy, innovative and challenging training sessions. Every training session we run is constructed with considering the needs of the player first. Our training protocols for both on ice and off ice training is GAME SPECIFIC. Our goal is to increase players skill levels and athleticism so they become more effective in what matters most... Games!
We believe there is a direct relationship between the movement of the game and the design of our hockey training and teaching system. Players and parents need to understand the value of a structured training program that provides the necessary number of repetitions done with proper form, motivation and instruction. This type of training is how players perform a skill correctly and naturally over time. Physiologists have stated that it takes thousands of repetitions using the proper techniques to become proficient in a skill. Our system of teaching for both on ice and off-ice training aligns perfectly with this scientific proof.

ON ICE TRAINING

All practices on ice will be organized as fast-paced, high intensity
workouts. Players will receive numerous repetitions and correct
teaching within each drill & concept and be forced to perform at maximum intensity. Our Spring Camp centers around the fundamentals of skating, puck skills, and shooting for younger players and moves to build on that foundation using advanced hockey concepts with our older groups. Players will participate in challenging progressive drills that push them to move out of their comfort zone while simultaneously moving their feet and handling a puck, forcing them to work on their vision skills. Practice sessions will be fun, challenging and motivate athletes to reach higher levels of performance. Players will be introduced to the following training:
Powerskating - Overspeed skating - Puckhandling - Passing - Shooting -Offensive game situations - Defensive game situations - On ice decision making and much more. During certain periods of on ice training players will scrimmage against each other under the Stars Coaching Staff direction. Scrimmage play will be monitored, directed and corrected.

OFF-ICE TRAINING

Off-ice training is one of the most essential components to the total development of a hockey player. Ice hockey is an explosive and intensive sport that requires the use of complex motor skills. Along with these skills, the demands of the game require a player to be in exceptional physical shape. Our dryland training session will include sprint intervals, plyometrics, agility courses, resistant and explosiveness training. We use hockey specific training equipment and techniques to achieve these results. Medicine balls, agility ladders, resistant tubes and professional slide boards, russian boxes are just a few of the training devices used in our program. Our dryland training program is designed to improve a player in the following areas:

- Speed Development
- Flexibility
- Aerobic/Anarobic Capacity
- Coordination
- Balance
- Footwork
- Strength & Explosiveness
- Acceleration & Deceleration
- Torso (core strength)

All dryland training will be AGE SPECIFIC and run by our on ice coaches and our official strength and conditioning coach. Off ice practice will also include ice hockey specific overspeed/underspeed stickhandling circuits, shooting stations and hockey specific exercises.

ELITE GOALIE PROGRAM

The Stars Goalie Performance Program (SGPP) will be a revolutionary program designed specifically for the development of goalies. Camp will be run by professional goalie coach Billy Pye.

Goalies will also receive professional instruction each on ice session for 8 weeks of the camp. The spring camp will include a 1 week comprehensive "Stars Goalie School" focusing on the art of goaltending. Goalies will receive a written evaluation/analysis at the conclusion of the 8 week camp.

CAMP COACHES

The coaching staff is the key ingredient to any good program. Our camp has put together a first class staff, hand picked for their teaching abilities, communication skills, knowledge of the game and overall experience. Our coaches are teachers who love the game, love to teach, understand how to balance work and fun, and who come to the rink each day with one thing in mind; how to make you better!
Our staff will work hard to help each student reach their full potential as it is the most dedicated and professional training staff in the Dallas metroplex. All of our coaches have extensive hockey backgrounds and have played and/or coached at the AAA, Junior, College or Professional level.
